“Wow, this place... it’s beautiful.”
Pulling up to the two-story building in the middle of an artsy downtown, I can say I’m in awe. The outside is covered in graffiti with depictions of tattoos, vines go up the walls and wrap around the small balcony on the upper level. The place looks abandoned but well taken care of, so curiosity has me leaping out of the car.
Ro joins me an arm over my shoulder, and a deep sigh comes out of him. For a moment I see sadness, but it doesn’t linger.
“Yeah this place always was my masterpiece, sadly it’s been forgotten. I do crash here when I’m in town though.” He says with a pause. “Come, I don’t have to be at Carmichael Candies until mid-day tomorrow, so let’s go upstairs and freshen up. I want to show you the sights, and spend a little more time getting to know each other. I need to know all things Chels.”
“Um… I think I just told you my life story, so if anyone needs to fess up it’s you.”
Heading up the stairs I take notice of the engraving on the steps themselves. The initials C.I. are clearly marked on each one. I want to ask what it stands for but feel like it’s not my place. My mind starts to turn, the possibility of it being the name of a woman pisses me off, but it’s so irrational that I don’t say anything. Opting for a quick shower I decided to go first and take the minutes I need for myself. The warm shower helps a great deal helping calm some of my nerves, and I feel like a new woman once I step out in my towel.
To my surprise, there are clothes laid out for me on the bed, and I get closer to inspect it. The shock of what is there almost makes me drop my towel. It’s the special one I kept eyeing in the corner of the boutique, an original 1950’s polka dot rockabilly dress with a gorgeous bow on the side. I hadn’t even tried it on knowing how expensive it must have been. Yet there it was on the chair, along with a pair of red Mary Jane pumps, and a strand of pearls, that I really hope aren’t real. It’s so beautiful I am almost afraid to put it on. But I’m only human, a dress like that isn’t meant to sit on a bed, and this girl is weak in the face of such things.
When I take in my reflection I almost am in tears. Not in a million years would I have ever been able to wear something like this, and that he chose it for me, instead of all the other things, just adds to how much he really gets me. Even taking notice of the smallest things, when he got me my favorite shade of red lipstick, which I had only mentioned in passing over the phone. Feeling rather sexy I seek him out, needing to thank him for being so wonderful.
